Steve Jobs Resigns As CEO Of Apple

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Wikileaks -- its actions and the reactions to them, the implications of what has happened around the whistle-blowing site -- has given birth to an extremely complex and ever-changing situation. In lieu of summing up a situation that has not come to a tidy conclusion, we have put together a full timeline of Wikileaks news and analysis from our site. Read through from our earliest coverage (February, 2008) to our most recent (today) and you should have a reasonably complete sense of why Wikileaks is important.

Leaked Cables Offer Raw Look at U.S. Diplomacy

This is another one of WikiLeak's stories. I am not sure what I should think about them, on one hand, what they're doing is reckless and irresponsible, on the other, impressive how they stand their ground. They are being sued and attacked from every direction but still make it their business to leak confidential  and often extremely sensitive documents.
Such as again today, read the New York Times article below. It's mind-blowing.

“Tik Tok” Soldiers Ordered to Make Anti-Dancing Video

The Israeli soldiers who were admonished this week for performing a dance routine to Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” in the streets on Hebron have received their punishment: They are to create an educational video instructing their compatriots not to dance.

The video, which became a viral sensation this week — even after if was taken down by the original uploader and then uploaded again — received mixed reactions from bloggers and press. Some found the image of the six soldiers decked out in IDF uniforms and military gear hilarious, others, disrespectful. The IDF, however, was less nebulous about its feelings.

The decade in news photographs

Call it what you will, "the noughties", "the two-thousands" or something else, the first decade of the 21st century (2000-2009) is now over. Looking back on the past ten years through news photographs, it becomes clear that it was a dramatic, often brutal decade. Natural disasters, terrorist attacks and wars were by far the most dominant theme. Ten years ago, Bill Clinton was ending his final term in office, very few had ever heard of Osama bin Laden, the Taliban ruled Afghanistan and Saddam Hussein still ruled Iraq - all that and much more has changed in the intervening time. It's really an impossible task to sum up ten years in a handful of photographs, but below is my best attempt at a look back at the last decade - feel free to let me know what I missed in the comments below.

Tzipi Livni: "It's about time to put terrorists on trial and not those who try to stop terror"

Israel has reacted angrily to the issuing by a British court of an arrest warrant for the former Israeli Foreign Minister, Tzipi Livni.
The warrant, granted by a London court on Saturday, was revoked on Monday when it was found Ms Livni was not visiting the UK.
Ms Livni was foreign minister during Israel's Gaza assault last winter.
